General Summary:

The Accounting Assistant performs a variety of administrative tasks related to processing of payroll data, invoice preparation and reconciliation, data handling, and record maintenance/reporting.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Enters payroll data into COINS system each week for assigned group(s). Verifies data entry by reviewing, correcting, changing, or deleting entered information via reconciliation of source documents to various prescribed system reports.
  • Supports department with basic filing, electronic storage, and organization.
  • Processing and coding of accounts payable and/or credit cards as needed.
  • Processes daily cash receipts, resolving open items using standard procedures.
  • Responsible for recording journal entries.
  • Performs other duties/special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Two or four year degree in accounting/finance preferred.
  • Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) and other applicable software programs.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • General knowledge of office protocol, routines, and procedures.
  • Ability to proof-read documents and accurately prepare various reports.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Description of Physical Working Environment:

  • Works in a standard office environment. Tasks in the office involve regular sitting or standing with computer use. Repetitive typing is common, and occasional bending, twisting, and light lifting may be required with or without reasonable accommodations.
