Job Description

The Staff Nurse in the Surgery Unit 8W provides professional nursing care to all adult surgical patients and their families.  Utilizes knowledge of nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, evaluate and document care.  Formulates nursing diagnosis for treating actual or potential health problems, teaching, counseling and providing care.  Delegates appropriate tasks to assistive nursing personnel.  Displays professional practice as set forth in The Brooklyn Hospital Center’s standard of care, and the institution’s mission and goals.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university – HIGHLY PREFERRED
  • One (1) year acute experience – PREFERRED
  • Current New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Ability to assess and reassess patients admitted to Surgery 8W Unit
  • Ability to perform assigned point of care testing (ex. Glucometer)
  • Computer application skills – ALLSCRIPTS and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
