Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Environmental Service Worker IV - Full Time, Evenings - Bldg Services - ASC Suffolk - Monday - Friday 12:00PM - 8:00PM.

In this role, the successful candidate serves a diverse population of patients, including those with special needs, at all stages of the life cycle. Environmental Service Worker IV demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with various age groups of patients, visitors and staff in order to provide required duties. The unique physical and psychosocial needs of patients relative to age-specific requirements are considered in the provision of ESW IV duties. Communication skills must be demonstrated through age-specific interactions that enhance customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities:

Preparation and Planning

• Ability to prioritize work assignments.
• Communicate with ES Manager/Supervisor.
• Communicate progress of assigned duties to ES Manager/Supervisor including completion of assignment.
• At beginning of shift, communicate with ES Manager/Supervisors regarding the day’s agenda and goals.
• At end of shift communicates to ES Manager/Supervisors any assignments not completed.

General Floor Maintenance

• Dry mops/damp mops assigned areas.
• Ability to operate floor buffing equipment.
• Operates automatic scrubbing machine.
• Is Familiar and demonstrates the ability to make decisions on what products needed to complete assignment on time.
• Ensures floor is free of debris.
• Keeps corners and baseboards clean in assigned areas.
• Cleans up all blood and body fluids.

Equipment and Supplies

• Obtains equipment and supplies in an efficient manner
• Ensures all equipment is safe and in proper working condition
• Has knowledge of all chemicals and their proper usage
• Is knowledgeable of equipment used for moving heavy objects and uses it safely.
• Breaks down equipment at the end of shift.
• Places equipment in proper storage area.
• Notifies Environmental Supervisor of the equipment in need of repair.

1. Floor Refinishing

• Familiar with chemicals used in floor refinishing and their proper usage.
• Is knowledgeable and demonstrates the proper procedure to shower scrub, strip and refinish floors.
• Consistently uses wet floor signs while floor refinishing in a safe manner

1. Carpet Care/Curtain Care

• Familiar with chemicals used in the carpet cleaning and their proper usage.
• Has knowledge of all equipment used in carpet cleaning processes.
• Inspects and washes curtains as assigned by Environmental Supervisor.
• Interfaces with Nurse Manager on areas that need curtains cleaned.
• Removes curtains for cleaning.
• Replaces curtains after cleaning.
• Can operate washer and dryer safely and according to manufacturer instruction.

1. Projects

• Moves and relocates offices when needed.
• Sets up conference rooms as directed by Environmental Support Supervisor.
• Willingly changes hours to ensure the completion of duties with minimal interruptions to hospital services.
• Cross-trained to perform schedules of all ESW I,ESW II, ESW III workers excluding management.
• Performs specialized cleaning as required by Assignment to the area worked.
• Cleans up all blood and body fluids on all surfaces.

1. Trash Removal

• Empties all trashcans.
• Cleans receptacles.
• Identifies and corrects safety hazards (i.e. spills, etc.)
• Replaces liners.
• Transports all trash to waste staging area consistently throughout the day.
• Operates equipment following all safety policies and procedures.
• Cleans immediate area surrounding trashcans.
• Separates cardboard, red-bag, black-bag, recycling and places in appropriate receptacles.
• Demonstrates safety while pulling carts throughout the Medical Center.

1. Customer Service            

•            Utilizes AIDET with each patient, visitor and staff encounter.                                                            
• Promotes and projects the hospitals service standards in their daily job tasks.         
• Promotes a positive patient experience during all patient encounters.
• Demonstrate competencies related to the 7-step room cleaning procedure.
• Provides consistent work performance and meets productivity standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High school diploma or equivalency in order to follow written work assignments & maintain records
Approximately one to three months experience to gain knowledge of cleaning procedures and power equipment use and maintenance.
Continued education through appropriate seminars, workshops, participation in departmental meetings, inservices & attention to NYUs memorandum.
Good interpersonal skills demonstrable in interactions with staff, administrators, patients and visitors

The salary range for the role is $51,597.00 - $51,597.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
