Laboratory Retain Technician

Position Summary

The Laboratory Retain Technician will oversee the collection, storage, and management of petroleum product and chemical samples that are retained for regulatory compliance, quality control, and future testing needs. This role requires a strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure that all samples are stored in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The technician will also collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure samples are maintained properly and ready for future analysis or testing. This position is critical for maintaining the integrity of our quality control and compliance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, label, and store petroleum product and chemical samples according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all sample retention activities meet environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements, including proper labeling, safe handling, and secure storage.
  • Retrieve and prepare retain samples for testing or inspection as requested.
  • Work closely with laboratory staff to ensure samples are stored in the correct containers, and that all required documentation is filed and readily accessible.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Ensure that sample retain storage areas are well-maintained and that adequate supplies are available for sample collection and storage.
  • Be able to pick up samples from local offices as needed.
  • Other job duties as defined. 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting, a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Fitness for Duty – Physical Demands

  • The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking during sample preparation, testing, and equipment calibration.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, such as chemical containers or laboratory equipment.
  • Working in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to chemicals and laboratory hazards, while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Good vision required to read and label sample containers and interpret documentation clearly.
