Job Description

The Trash and Linen Technician is a hybrid position in Environment Services and plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors at Lemontree Healthcare. This position is responsible for the proper collection, handling, and disposal of waste materials, including hazardous, biohazardous, and general waste, in accordance with hospital protocols, regulatory guidelines, and infection control procedures. This position also is responsible for the receiving, handling, cleaning, and distribution of linens to ensure that patient care areas are always stocked with clean and sanitary linens in accordance with healthcare standards.

Schedule: Monday-Friday. Every other weekend
Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm

Linen Responsibilities: 

  • Follow all safety protocols, infection control practices, and hospital policies while handling linens.
  • Operate laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, and folding machines, following proper safety procedures.
  • Assist with the removal of soiled linens from patient rooms, operating rooms, and other areas.
  • Collect, sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute clean linen throughout the healthcare facility.
  • Ensure that linens are sorted by type, color, and condition to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Monitor linen inventory levels and report shortages to the Environmental Services Manager.
  • Perform regular inspections of linen supplies to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.

Trash Waste Collection & Disposal: 

  • Collect and properly dispose of all types of waste from designated areas within the healthcare facility, including patient rooms, common areas, offices, and restrooms.
  • Ensure waste is properly segregated into categories (e.g., general, biohazard, recyclable, pharmaceutical) to prevent contamination and comply with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Transport waste to designated disposal or collection areas, including trash compactor or external waste containers.

Hazardous & Biohazardous Waste Handling: 

  • Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous and biohazardous waste materials, including sharps, medical waste, and other infectious materials, in compliance with OSHA and hospital infection control policies.
  • Ensure proper labeling and containment of hazardous waste to prevent contamination and ensure safety.

Cleaning & Sanitization: 

  • Regularly clean and sanitize waste collection areas, including trash bins, carts, and containers, to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness in hallways, utility rooms, and loading docks where waste is handled and stored.
  • Ensure that waste bins and containers are properly lined with appropriate liners and replaced as needed.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in linen or environmental services in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact professionally with healthcare staff.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move large bags of soiled and clean linens.
  • Ability to operate laundry machinery and other equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and personal protective equipment (PPE) use in healthcare environments preferred.

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to cleaning agents.

Work Environment: 

  • This position is performed in a healthcare setting with regular contact with patients and healthcare staff. The environment may include exposure to various cleaning materials and medical equipment.
