Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer Internship is a hands-on learning position for students working on a degree in engineering, design, manufacturing or plastics. This position will support the continuous improvement of manufacturing operations and production support. This opportunity provides exposure to manufacturing operations including injection molding, automation, and quality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work on special projects in the production department as directed by Supervisor and/or mentor.
  • Possible project areas include EOAT/fixture design, Lean, 5S, Process Optimization, Automation, Maintenance, and more.
  • Troubleshoot existing processes to improve product quality, productivity and overall equipment efficiency.
  • Provide technical support/solutions to manufacturing processes, improve yield and throughput, drive cost reduction activities and improve on part quality.
  • Use systematic problem-solving tools to troubleshoot both current and new products/processes.
  • Actively engage in safety, environmental, and ergonomics efforts.
  • Support implementation of product or equipment changes requested by customers or internal teams.
  • Utilize 3D modeling skills to support engineering projects involving new or existing tools/products.
  • Support Quality Management System compliance through documentation and good process adherence.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Engineering or Plant Manager.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and learn from senior engineers.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in exploring new technologies that enhance company capabilities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Attend engineering meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks.
  • Follow office and professional etiquette guidelines.

Qualification Requirements

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, automation, or related field).
  • Junior or Senior standing preferred, but all qualified candidates considered.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes or related coursework.
  • Exposure to CAD/3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Ability to interpret drawings or basic technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk or listen.
  • Frequently required to sit and use hands to handle components, tools, or equipment.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or climb.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have good vision, including depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • May work near moving mechanical parts on the production floor.
  • Noise level is typically moderate.
  • Appropriate PPE will be provided.
