This Fall internship (Aug-Dec) position will take part in the review and coordination of child abuse and neglect cases with our Multi-Disciplinary Teams. Must be tied to class and/or program requirement for degree.

Students working with Project Harmony MDT teams may:

• Review and analyze child abuse and neglect reports received by law enforcement and child protective services pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. §28-710.
• Assist the county attorney and current MDT Facilitator in facilitating regular case reviews and arranging for training opportunities for the multidisciplinary team.
• Work with the Coordination Team to continuously identify and evaluate goals and outcomes.
• Submit reports as requested regarding frequency, outcomes and recommendations of the multi-disciplinary team case review as well as for improvement in protocols and practices.
• Timely input of case information related to goals and outcomes into agency database.
• Work closely and collaboratively with system partners.
• Assist in identifying training needs for child welfare staff, attorneys and judges about child development, trauma, parent-child relationships, availability of community services and resources for children and families and other best practice trainings as needed.
• Ensure culturally competent services are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
• Participation in community committees and advisory boards.
• Other Case Coordinator/Response Service duties as assigned.

Intern Program

Project Harmony supports students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a Social Science or related program.

An internship with Project Harmony is a unique opportunity for students with an interest in child welfare, child mental health and working with families. Participating departments include Children’s Services – Advocacy, Mental Health Therapist Team, Multi-Disciplinary Teams, and the Connections Program.

Students accepted into this internship placement can expect to attain these outcomes:

• An understanding of the mission and function of Child Advocacy Centers.
• Understanding of the criminal justice process and child welfare system.
• Understanding of the effects of trauma on children and families and how the CAC responds.
• How to work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Understanding of the various Multi-Disciplinary Teams and observe how they function.
• How to create and sustain good practices for self-care, to offset the potential harm of secondary traumatic stress.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Must respect and maintain confidentiality, and uphold HIPAA compliance
• Actively participate in Project Harmony program and agency operations such as staff meetings, in-services, assigned committees and other relevant activities.
• Collaborate with Project Harmony staff, as well as other agencies and service providers involved in serving the child and family
• Ensure culturally competent services are provided to all families we serve without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
• Ability to relate well to a wide variety of individuals, including referral sources, providers, family members, children, etc.
• Excellent organization, time management and decision-making skills.
• High level of initiative and energy.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

• Applicants must be enrolled in a university program which has written requirements for the placement experience.
• Career goal congruent with goals of this internship – child welfare, child mental health, advocacy
• Pass background checks and provide reference as requested
• Candidate is free of any foreseeable conflicts of interest given the population served and their past or current volunteer activities and/or employment.
