About the Role:

The Paint Prepper plays a critical role in ensuring surfaces are properly prepared for painting, which directly impacts the quality and durability of the final finish. This position involves meticulous cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming of various surfaces to create an optimal base for paint application. The Paint Prepper collaborates closely with painters and project managers to meet project specifications and deadlines while maintaining safety and quality standards. Attention to detail and a strong understanding of surface materials and preparation techniques are essential to prevent defects and ensure customer satisfaction. Ultimately, the Paint Prepper contributes to the overall success of painting projects by delivering well-prepared surfaces that enhance the aesthetic and functional outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in surface preparation or a related field such as painting or construction.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools used in surface preparation.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in surface preparation or painting techniques.
  • Experience working with different types of surfaces such as wood, metal, drywall, and concrete.
  • Familiarity with safety standards related to chemical handling and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans or specifications.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect surfaces to identify areas requiring cleaning, sanding, or repair before painting.
  • Remove old paint, dirt, grease, and other contaminants using appropriate tools and cleaning agents.
  • Sand and smooth surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of paint and primer.
  • Apply masking tape, plastic sheeting, or other protective coverings to areas not to be painted.
  • Mix and apply primers or sealers as needed to prepare surfaces for painting.
  • Maintain and clean tools and equipment used in surface preparation.
  • Follow safety protocols to handle chemicals and operate equipment safely.
  • Collaborate with painters and supervisors to ensure preparation meets project requirements and timelines.

The Paint Prepper uses technical skills daily to assess and prepare surfaces, ensuring they meet the necessary standards for painting. Proficiency with sanding tools, cleaning agents, and masking materials is essential to achieve smooth, clean surfaces that promote paint adhesion. Attention to detail is critical when inspecting surfaces and applying primers to prevent imperfections in the final paint job. Monday through Friday, 5am to 1:30pm. Mandatory overtime
