What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $95,000.00 - $114,790.00 based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. During your onsite days you will work at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building located at 201 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80202. Office hours are 8:00AM – 5:00PM.

What We Are

The Municipal Operations provides full-service legal representation and advice to City officials, agencies, and employees in the areas of general municipal law, construction contracts, procurement, government contracting, tax, municipal finance, bankruptcy, real estate, land use, housing, environmental regulation and compliance, elections, and commercial litigation. This section offers a steady stream of clients with an incredible variety of legal needs. The successful candidate will primarily represent the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as the Department of Finance and Real Estate Section. The ideal candidate will have experience with construction procurement, construction bid issues, and construction contracting. Additional experience in government finance issues, the legislative process, and general municipal law is preferred.

What You'll Do

The Denver City’s Attorney’s Office seeks an Entry Level real estate and construction Attorney to be the next Assistant City Attorney for the Municipal Operations Section

The responsibilities for this position include:

• Advising and supporting executive leadership and staff from the  Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and Department of Finance on construction procurement, construction bid issues and construction contracting as well as real estate related issues and transactions, government contracting,  municipal law,  and related topics;
• Drafting and negotiating contracts and review of associated documents and agreements, especially construction contracts and alternative delivery methods;
• Participating in the City’s most complex construction projects as the senior expert on construction and finance related issues;
• Drafting and interpreting City ordinances, rules and regulations, and charter requirements;
• Conducting and/or supervising legal research;
• As assigned by the City Attorney, providing City officers and employees with counsel and advice and formal legal opinions on complex matters, in specialized legal areas;
• Providing guidance to associate and entry level attorneys; and
• Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills with:

• Denver City Charter, Denver Municipal Code, TABOR, Real Estate Law
• Drafting and negotiating construction contracts
• Municipal Finance
• Municipal law

Preferred experience must be demonstrated on application/resume.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education requirement: Doctor of Jurisprudence degree or Bachelor of Laws degree.
• Experience Requirement: None
• Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
• License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire or a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire in accordance with C.R.C.P. 203.2, 203.3, 203.4 and 205.6.
• Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
