Job Description

Garfield Park Academy is seeking a motivated full-time (10-month position) Special Education High School Teacher in a small, departmental classroom. Here, classroom teachers are valued members of our special education teams that include teachers, aides, social workers, and therapists. Together, they implement the evidence-based Teaching Family Model to support meaningful social and academic learning and healthy decision-making among students with behavioral challenges and learning issues. Position requirements include:

  • New Jersey Teacher Certification in English, Math, Science, and/or History.
  • New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification is preferred. One year of teaching experience is preferred.
  • At least one year of Special Education teaching is preferred.

Garfield Park Academy instructional staff are thoroughly trained and mentored in the Teaching Family Model. High School Teacher responsibilities include: providing individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student's IEP and individual goals and objectives; implementing modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations; collecting and interpreting data to teach responsively; administering periodic assessments to determine present levels of performance; participating in school staff meetings and parent meetings and clearly and consistently communicating and collaborating with educational team members, school leaders and parents/guardians.

Pay: $60,000- $65,000/annually
