The MU Health Care Career Institute is offering an exciting opportunity for employees to advance their careers with free training to become certified medical assistants! Ten people will have the opportunity to receive fully paid education and support throughout their entire career advancement program.

Q: What is the process for selection?
A: Applicants will apply online and interview with MU Health Care Human Resources. Top candidates will have a series of interviews, followed by at least two hours of shadowing a Medical Assistant in a clinic/doctor's office setting. High school transcripts required for those graduating high school in the last 5 years or TEAS testing (no cost) will be required for those who graduated high school more than 5 years ago - study materials will also be provided at no cost.
Q: Who will provide the education & training for the Medical Assistant position and where will classes be held?
A: MU Health Care has contracted with Ready to Hire - Power by Cengage Group to provide ONLINE education suitable for someone who's already working full time. Upon successful completion of the program, you will gain new skills, certification, and a new career!
Q: What type of support will be provided to me if I’m selected?
A: MU Health Care will pay the entire cost of education & training. Additionally, you will be furnished with a computer for use during the program, one set of scrubs and provided with extensive support from educators.
Q: How long does this educational program last?
A: Classes for Certified Medical Assistant begin for all selected students in August 2026 through May 2027. On average, you should expect to dedicate at least 15 - 20 hours per week for self-study. Candidates will continue to work in their current position for the first part of the program.
During the latter part the program, candidates will job-share hours with an outpatient, clinical department [outside of their home department] to receive approximately 24 hours/week of paid, hands on training. The remainder of your hours will be worked within your home department and you will maintain your current full time, benefit eligible status.
Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will be placed by Clinic Leadership into a Medical Assistant role in an outpatient area based on the needs of the organization at that time. The overall goal will be to match your skills to the employment needs of the organization.
Q: What are my obligations if I’m selected?
A: Selected candidates will be expected to complete ONLINE courses and in-person hands-on training. Commit to working for MU Health Care full time for two years as a Medical Assistant upon program completion (two year commitment = May 2027 – May 2029).
