Job Requirements

General Summary:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. All medical assistants are expected to participate in both clinical and administrative tasks and display core values of the organization. The below items are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record/EMR.
  2. Follows established clinic workflows to facilitate efficiency and timely service to patients.
  3. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider. Performs and documents vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature) and risk screening on all patients per hospital policy. Reports out of range values in vital signs and risk screening to the provider.
  4. Performs routine clinic testing, including but not limited to: Urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry, etc. Follows established guidelines or protocols where applicable to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam.
  5. Obtains necessary blood and urine specimens per provider orders.
  6. Stocks/restocks supply and exam rooms maintaining necessary supplies in clinical area.
  7. Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times. 
  8. Performs cleaning and disinfection of environment of care according to hospital policy. 
  9.  Give injections and tracking data in a computer program. 
  10. Assists with front desk operations to include but not limited to: patient check in and check out, scheduling, filing, patient phone calls, facility fee quotes, co-pay collections where applicable and informing patients of possible delays.

  Education and Experience 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  2. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  3. Special circumstances to consider an exception may include: (1 year of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field within the last 3 years; or 2 years of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field within the last 5 years). These should be vetted by Human Resources Director and Department Director.
  4. Current BLS Certification required.
  5. CPR certification required. 
  6. Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
  7. Knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions.
  8. Ability to perform basic clinical skills such as obtaining vital signs.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, team members within the practice, and other members of the organization.

  1. Work Schedule: 8:30am-4pm, Tues- Fri
