Social Worker

Independent Living Specialist

Pay: $38,000 - $40,000


Reports to: Executive Director

Employee Status: Full Time

Area Served: Madison, Morgan, Jackson, DeKalb, Marshall, Winston, Lawrence, Cullman, Marion, Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, and Limestone Counties

Work Location: Huntsville (Hybrid)

Schedule: 40 Hours Weekly


Are you passionate about making a real difference in people's lives? We are seeking a warm, dedicated Social Worker to join us as an Independent Living Specialist. This is more than just a job; it is a heart-centered role focused on fostering independence, dignity, and joy for individuals with diverse needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist consumers reach their own independent living goals, including the development and monitoring of an independent living plan (or waiver). Provide core independent living services to a cross-disability population, including advocacy (individual and systems), peer support, independent living skills training, and information and referral. Provide services in consumers' homes and in the community. Coordinate activities that empower people with disabilities to fully participate in the community. Document community activities and consumer demographics, contacts, goals, and other data in accordance with agency procedures. Provide community outreach and awareness of Disability Resource Network. Work in collaborative manner with service providers, government agencies, and private sector. Provide support of local disability grassroots organizations.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must have commitment to independent living philosophy, knowledge of community resources. good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work with diverse populations. Must be able to document services provided, be willing to learn more about civil rights laws and services for people with disabilities. Need access to reliable transportation and have ability to travel within service area and be able to provide services in the consumers' homes.

Must have basic knowledge of computer operations. Personal lived experience with disability preferred. Upon request, the Center will provide staff members with disabilities reasonable job accommodations/modifications.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree or higher preferred. One year of work experience in Case Management, Social Services, Healthcare, or Administrative roles required. Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
