Job Summary
The role of the Fitness Specialist is responsible for leading and encouraging guests and members as they strive to reach their fitness goals. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the facilities.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Greet members and guests; welcome and check member/guests into the wellness center
Anticipate member and guest needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all members and guests
Always maintain positive guest relations
Resolve member/guest complaints, ensuring member/guest satisfaction
Maintain knowledge of hours of operations, memberships, fees, services, products, and merchandise
Perform fitness assessments, determine exercise prescriptions, and design workout programs for a diverse population, including a variety of high risk clientele
Schedule and monitor personal trainings, group exercise classes and equipment, sign member/guests up for fitness classes
Assist with fitness center equipment usage as needed
Assist with wellness programming and events monthly as required
Monitor member/guest safety
Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
Perform opening and closing procedures according to checklist
Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas
Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance procedures and use of equipment; report any equipment failures in a timely manner
Maintain knowledge of POS system and member-based system
Perform all cashier duties including, but not limited to, sales, voids, discounts, returns, etc.
Sell retail merchandise; price merchandise according to guidelines established by manager
Display and stock merchandise. Remove damaged/soiled merchandise
Assist the Program Manager with strategic planning, budgeting and reporting
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needs
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English
Computer experience including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Experience in a wellness/fitness setting and/or a passion for wellness/fitness preferred
Degree or certification in wellness/ health preferred
CPR/AED/First Aid certification (may be obtained upon hire)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Detail oriented and thorough
Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards
Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests
Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way
Knowledge of POS systems and member-based systems
Knowledge of correct maintenance procedures and use of equipment
Knowledge of health and wellness practices
Knowledge of proper sanitation methods
Ability to think critically
Self-motivated
Ability to motivate others in a professional setting
Ability to resolve and troubleshoot problems individually
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Physical Demands
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
May be required to reach with hands and arms, bend, lift, and kneel
Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
Ability to withstand frequent exercise and physical activity
Working Conditions
Work may take place indoor and/or outdoor
Exposure to extreme heat or cold depending on season
Exposure to cleaning chemicals (with proper PPE)
