Job Summary:

The Gift Shop Clerk Position reports directly to the Gift Shop Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Retail duties in the Hospital Gift Shop operating the cash register with proven efficiency.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all customers of the Hospital Gift Shop.
  • Works with the Gift Shop Coordinator to keep a clean and orderly environment.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Key Role/Responsibility

  • Operates the cash register with proven efficiency.
  • Greets and presents a positive attitude to all customers with compassion.
  • Handles refunds and exchanges with courtesy and tact.
  • Maintains a positive and respectful relationship with the Volunteers.
  • Has knowledge of all merchandise for sale in the Shop.
  • Restocks items daily, including drinks, candy, and snacks.
  • Keeps Gift Shop orderly and clean. Maintain appealing visual store by cleaning and proper product placement.
  • Checks deliveries off with outside delivery personnel.
  • Informs the Gift Shop Coordinator of any special requests by customers.
  • Reports any accidents or incidents immediately to Gift Shop Coordinator.
  • Assists volunteers in daily operation of the cash register.
  • Reports any suspected shoplifting to the Security Department by pressing panic button.
  • Informs Gift Shop Coordinator of any low stock levels of basic stock merchandise.
  • Handles telephone inquiries and phone orders courteously utilizing proper telephone etiquette.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in age-appropriate service to customers.
  • Attends all required meetings and completes all mandatory education requirements.
  • Works with all department team members to accomplish department goals.

Performs other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.


Required Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.Required


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Required Minimum Experience:

One-year retail experience. Specialty shop experience a plus. Required and
Computer/data entry experience. Required


Required Minimum Skills:

Ability to operate cash register. High
Ability to communicate with visiting customers and various members of the healthcare team. High
Has basic computer operational knowledge. High
