Job DetailsJob Location: Central - Waco, TX 76707Position Type: InternshipEducation Level: High SchoolJob Shift: DayJob Category: Marketing   Waco Family Medicine Summer Internship Program (Paid) — Marketing & Communications   Job Summary Waco Family Medicine (WFM), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), offers a paid Summer Internship Program for students and recent graduates interested in healthcare, nonprofit, and community-focused work. Interns contribute to meaningful projects, receive mentorship, and learn how a mission-driven organization serves underserved communities. Internship dates: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026   Work format: Varies by department and role Applicants apply once and may indicate interest in one or more internship tracks. Final assignments and projects vary based on interests, skills, and department needs.   Essential Functions Interns may be assigned to one or more tracks:   Marketing & Communications   Draft or edit short-form content using approved templates and messaging. Assist with creating or organizing content and tracking basic metrics (as applicable). Support communication-related projects.   Nonmedical Drivers of Health (Everyday factors like food, housing, transportation, and service access that affect health.)   Help organize community resources or referral information. Assist with documenting workflows that support access to care. Assist in the Wellness Center (patient and staff gym to support health) Create plain-language materials as needed.   Note: Assignments, mentors, and projects may vary based on department needs. QualificationsQualifications Required Currently enrolled in an accredited program or a recent graduate. Strong communication, teamwork, professionalism, and reliability. Willingness to learn and follow confidentiality expectations.   Preferred (varies by track; not required)   Marketing and Communications: Writing, editing, or content experience.   Accessibility/Accommodations   Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the application and internship experience.     PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:    Visual and auditory accuracy  Shift length - 8 hours  Indoor setting  Continuous use of computer and calculator  Long periods of sitting  Frequent use of telephone  Continuous repetitive grasping and manipulation of both hands  Continuous conversational communication  Occasional reaching, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting and climbing  Occasionally carrying, lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 25 lbs.  Occasionally working in confined, noisy, dusty areas  Frequent use of personal car  Understand/carry out simple/detailed, oral/written instructions  Memorize and retain instructions  Read and interpret detailed specifications

Waco Family Medicine was established in 1969 by the McLennan County Medical Society to address a shortage of doctors, lack of primary care access for low-income community members, and economic development issues in Waco. The center was developed from a coalition of business, political, and medical leaders pulling together to solve these community problems. Through the Waco Family Medicine Residency Program, housed at WFM Central site, we train some of the region’s best family physicians with an emphasis on compassion and culturally-sensitive care. Our mission: To improve the health and wellness of the underserved residents of the Heart of Texas by providing effective access to high quality comprehensive primary care and an exemplary training environment for tomorrow’s family physicians and other health care professionals.
