Job Summary

The research assistant is responsible for assisting designated University personnel with daily activities related to research assignments, scholarly publication, geospatial curriculum testing, and educational and community outreach projects as they pertain to the assignment and/or grant specifications. This position may support research initiatives in Remote Sensing, GeoAI, Human Geography, and related geospatial fields while contributing to curriculum development and quality assurance efforts.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with maintaining compliance of all research activities with University, state, and federal regulations
  • Conducts research activities related to remote sensing, GeoAI, human geography, and related scholarly topics
  • Assists with development of educational workshops on research testing and all aspects of the research process
  • Reads various textbooks, articles, and scholarly materials to maintain knowledge on specified topics
  • Generates guided material notes as assigned
  • Assists with internal and external outreach activities to promote the assignment’s mission
  • Assists with development of positive University and community presence
  • Develops and maintains social media presence regarding activities and projects
  • Assists with proper paper and electronic documentation of all appointments, phone calls, reports, meetings, and other activities as they relate to assignment activities
  • Assists other students with developing research testing protocols
  • Initiates and collaborates on preparation of presentations, abstracts, data reports, manuscripts, and other scholarly research products
  • Assists with development of publishable research materials and dissemination of research findings
  • Participates in curriculum testing and quality assurance activities for geospatial programs and accreditation initiatives
  • Identifies, documents, and communicates technical or instructional issues related to curriculum modules and program functionality
  • Supports iterative curriculum improvement through testing and feedback processes
  • Operates as a primary point of contact for the assignment in completion of all laboratory related tasks, protocols, and activities
  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Ability to use word processing and statistical reporting software
  • Knowledge of geospatial technologies and Esri products, including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, Survey123, Experience Builder, Dashboards, and Story Maps preferred
  • Willingness to learn geospatial coding and programming tools such as Python, Arcade, and Jupyter preferred
  • Ability to support scholarly writing, peer review, research dissemination, and collaborative faculty-led research projects
