Position Summary:

We are seeking energetic and motivated Group Exercise Instructors to lead high-quality group fitness classes that engage members, build community, and promote physical wellness. You will be responsible for instructing classes safely and effectively while representing the values and mission of the YMCA.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, engaging, and effective group exercise sessions tailored to participants' skill levels

  • Demonstrate and clearly explain proper techniques and fitness concepts

  • Ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants during classes

  • Arrive prepared and on time, with all necessary equipment and attire

  • Provide individual feedback and encouragement within the group class setting

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure appropriate use of facilities

  • Secure and coordinate with qualified substitutes when needed

  • Attend instructor meetings, trainings, and workshops as required

  • Promote class participation and support recruitment initiatives

  • Maintain current certifications and pursue professional development

  • Uphold YMCA policies, procedures, and core values at all times


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Current CPR and AED certifications

  • Nationally recognized Group Exercise Certification (e.g., AFAA, ACE, Yoga Alliance, Les Mills, Zumba, etc.)

  • Outgoing, friendly, and professional demeanor

  • Ability to motivate and relate well to a diverse group of individuals

  • Pass a criminal background check

  • Ongoing progress toward YMCA Leader Certification (training support available)


Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to teach at various times throughout the day

  • Physical activity includes standing, lifting up to 25 lbs., kneeling, climbing, and prolonged speaking
