Location: Kansas City Metro Area

Job Summary: As a Retail Sales Associate 1 at Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City, you play a crucial role in supporting our mission to provide affordable housing and critical home repair solutions to families in our community. You will be the face of our organization, interacting with guest shopping, donors dropping off merchandise, and volunteers in our retail store environment.  

Starting wage for this position is $16 per hour. 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in safety training programs, identify, and report any potential hazards, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety culture. 
  • Process sales transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems, handling cash, credit, donation request and debit card payments efficiently. 
  • Educate guest about Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City’s mission and programs, encouraging donations and participation in volunteer opportunities. 
  • Address guest concerns or complaints in a professional and timely manner, striving to achieve positive experience. 
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and restocking inventory on the sales floor, ensuring shelves are neat, clean, product priced, and well-maintained. 
  • Collaborate with volunteers to accomplish tasks such as stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, and maintaining store cleanliness. 
  • Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to guest, helping them find products, answering questions, loading, and offering guidance on purchases. 
  • Implement and maintain creative and visually appealing displays that highlight featured products and promotions. 
  • Ability to work in warehouse environment with limited climate controls. 
  • Process donations by cleaning, testing functionality, completing minor repairs and pricing.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • The ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and stay organized amidst multiple responsibilities. 
  • The ability to adapt to changing circumstances, learn new skills, and thrive in dynamic environments. 
  • Demonstrating integrity, honesty, and respect for ethical principles in all aspects of work. 
  • The capability to interact positively with others, build relationships, and collaborate effectively. 
  • Bilingual ability is helpful, but not required.
  • Knowledge of building materials helpful, but not required. 

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • High School or equivalent education. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities. 
  • Forklift experience helpful, not required. 

Physical Requirements Required to Perform Essential Functions of Job:

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged duration, walk, climb, bend and squat. 
  • Comfortable standing, walking, and bending for extended periods. 
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel repeatedly as part of job duties. 
  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions may require withstand exposure to heat, cold, rain, or other elements. 
  • Reach above shoulder heights or below the waist or lift as required to file documents, store materials, or move materials. 
  • Individual may be subject to intermittent moderate noise levels.
