Position Summary  

As a member of the Care Team, the Medical Assistant position is responsible for a variety of clinical tasks, both during and outside of provider visits. All staff are required to document their work in the electronic health record, treat patients in a timely and professional manner, and keep their work areas properly stocked, cleaned, and in compliance with applicable regulations. 

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Accurately perform basic patient assessment activities (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, etc.) based on existing protocols or provider requests
  • Administer patient screenings and assessments, as required, according to demographics and needs of each patient
  • Assists with procedures and other services
  • Collect and test specimens, as required (urine, sputum, pregnancy test, etc.) 
  • Administer and document immunizations and injections according to PrimeCare guidelines/procedures  
  • Room patients for their exams and maintain responsibility for the patient care process until the end of each visit
  • Thoroughly, accurately, and promptly document all service rendered in the electronic health record for every patient
  • Be knowledgeable of, and in compliance with, CLIA, OSHA and HIPAA regulations for safety, infection control, equipment operation, confidentiality, and other applicable areas (e.g. patient identification and standard precautions)
  • Confirm maintainenance of refrigeration temperature according to VFC standards and documents in temperature log 
  • Treat all patients in a kind and courteous manner
  • Regularly check mail, e-mail, and voicemail and respond promptly and professionally to all inquiries
  • Attend to shared responsibilities in each work area, including answering phones, cleaning, stocking, and organizing common work areas, and assisting with orientation and training of other employees as needed.  
  • Perform other tasks required in support of the medical providers and nursing staff, but which are not detailed within this job description
  • All clinical staff must be available, at a minimum, to work one (1) evening per week (until 8:00 pm) and one (1) Saturday every four (4) weeks

 Required Skills or Abilities   

  • Basic patient care skills required, with observation and assessment skills preferred  
  • Good physical stamina and an ability to be on your feet most of the day
  • Ability to work well with a variety of ages, cultures, and temperaments represented among PrimeCare staff and patients, treating other with kindness and professionalism in all they do 
  • Commitment to demonstrating personal integrity through punctuality, honesty, an ability to follow instructions, proper attention to detail in all work matters, and a willingness to learn from others  

Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration   

  • High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program required  
  • Experience in a medical practice, laboratory, hospital or other clinical setting helpful  
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant recognition encouraged
  • Current provider-level BLS CPR certification required prior to hire

Salary

All wages are based on relevant years of experience and time since completing a Medical Assisting program.  The minimum rate is the wage that a newly graduated Medical Assistant will earn.
