Job Description

OVERVIEW: To provide a clean, sanitary and safe environment within the Lower Elwha Health Department and Tribal Facilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  • Maintain building and surrounding facilities and perform routine repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Support infection control by overseeing janitorial services. Ensure janitorial services are maintaining consistently high standards of care by thoroughly cleaning high risk areas such as medical exam rooms, dental operatories, labs, and sterile areas.
  • Responsible for the assembly of furniture, workstations and other needed changes to facilitate work flow.
  • Perform general maintenance inside the building to include but not limited to, replacing light bulbs, touch up paint, light plumbing, remove and replace Ceiling tile, light housekeeping to keep building customer ready during business hours.
  • Aware of cleaning efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Able to complete assigned projects in a timely manner and work with little supervision.
  • Operation of a tribal vehicle for essential functions of job.
  • Facilitate work orders needed to keep outside grounds/structures clean and professional including mowing, landscaping and parking lot maintenance.
  • Coordinate and ensure sidewalks and lots are safe during inclement weather. 
  • Monitor the Environmental Services and Preventative Maintenance schedules to assure servicing fulfillment in a timely manner.
  • Ensure facility safety plan is followed, including maintenance and inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, sharps disposal.
  • Facilitate and/or remove clutter from halls. 
  • Attend required training as outlined for Environmental Services compliance.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Services Supervisor to Keep SDS manual updated and ordering supplies essential for cleaning.
  • Inform Facilities Director of proposed changes of equipment and/or professional services. needed to repair/replace broken or malfunctioning equipment associated with building maintenance procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current Washington State driver license and insurable under State of Washington.
  • Knowledge of required use of protective wear when cleaning with chemicals.
  • Pass Background Check and UA testing prior to employment.
  • Be self-motivated and flexible.
  • Dependable and prompt in work attendance daily.
  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery in a safe and cautious manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a friendly courteous manner to all patients and staff encountered.
  • Maintain and respect strict confidentiality.
  • Basic Microsoft Word processing skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED BY POSITION:

  • Works independently with little supervision and in a team.
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
  • Ability to follow department and Tribal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
  • Knowledge of use of maintenance equipment and use of chemical compounds for cleaning.
  • Ability to articulate need for training and skills as required by job duties.
  • Recognizes that a high level of cognizance is required in the healthcare industry.
  • Ability to plan and implement a prioritization plan that is fluid and ongoing.
  • Appropriate professional appearance and behavior. 
  • Collegial communication skills that include observations and needs, to include 1:1 interactions and written reports. 
  • Understands OSHA and knowledge of compliance requirements.
  • Participates in all required trainings and all staff meetings.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift heavy objects for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to work in all kinds of weather
  • Must be able bend, stoop, squat, stretch in performing job duties
  • Ability to stand on a ladder and work from a ladder
  • Ability to lift in excess of 75lbs or more consistently when necessary for prolonged periods of time.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1yr experience in environmental services profession

 OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Must abide by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe personnel policies and procedures and the Drug and Alcohol policy
