Job Description

Department: Civic Education and Innovation within the Center for Careers, Life, and Service

Purpose: The Social Innovator in Residence program aims to provide social innovators with opportunities to advance their work while engaging with the campus and community members who want to learn about strategies for creating social change. This position supports the event management and program coordination needs of the Social Innovator in Residence program during the Innovator’s residency, residency follow-up activities, and preparation for the next application cycle. This position will also support other social innovation programming in the Center for Careers, Life, and Service.

Reporting: The Social Innovation Student Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director for Social Innovation Partnerships and Education.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with publicity for Social Innovator in Residence and social innovation educational events, including tabling, creation and posting of publicity materials, and other campus outreach.
• Assist with coordination and implementation of Social Innovator in Residence and social innovation educational events including material preparation, set-up, and other logistical needs.
• Assist with documenting Social Innovator in Residence and social innovation educational workshops and events through taking photos and recording notes for follow-up and future planning.
• Serve as a student liaison to connect Social Innovator in Residence and social innovation program activities for campus constituencies.
• Assist with preparation for next Social Innovator in Residence application cycle.
• Attend regular Social Innovation Student Coordinator team meetings and trainings.
• Assist Civic Education and Innovation staff with other program support as needed.

• Capacity to deepen understanding of social innovation and systems thinking approaches and tools.
• Sharp attention to details, deadlines, and confidentiality.
• Ability to synthesize and objectively communicate complex data and concepts.
• Ability to communicate professionally across cultural differences both in writing and orally.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive applicant and selection process information.

• Proficient and/or ability to become proficient in Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Canva, PowerPoint, and social media platforms.

Qualifications

• Entering second through fourth year of study at Grinnell College, but exceptional first year applicants will be considered.

• Some flexibility is needed as work hours may be adjusted to include tabling or special events.
