TactWare is seeking an Apprentice Software Engineer to support the Target Handoff System (THS) program. This effort provides software development, integration, logistics, and programmatic support to the USMC and Joint Fires community under a prime contractor supporting the Space and Missile Defense Center for Excellence (SMDC).

This is an opportunity for an early-career developer to contribute to mission-focused software systems while working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative environment. 

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain applications using Kotlin, Java, Android, and related technologies
• Participate in agile software development activities
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
• Collaborate with engineers, leadership, and customers to understand and implement requirements
• Assist with unit testing, integration testing, and debugging activities
• Communicate technical progress, challenges, and solutions effectively within the team
• Contribute to technical documentation and software artifacts

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship (REQUIRED)
  • Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited college or university
• Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
• Exposure to Kotlin, Java, Android, or modern software development concepts through coursework, internships, or personal projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Git version control and agile development workflows
• Interest in modern UI development or cross-platform technologies such as Kotlin Multiplatform
• Exposure to unit testing or automated testing practices
