Licensed Practical Nurse

Status: Full Time, Exempt OR Part Time, Non-exempt

Salary: Commensurate with experience and current state salary schedules

Job Summary: 

The Licensed Practical Nurse is pivotal in supporting the mission of Pattison’s Academy. Reporting to the Chief Programming Officer, this position is primarily responsible for supporting the medical needs of the children who attend our charter school and summer camp programs. As an essential member of the health services team, this position works collaboratively with staff and families to ensure the health and safety of the individuals we serve. Additionally, this role requires flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail to ensure the smooth delivery of healthcare services throughout our programming. Nursing supervision will be provided by Pattison's Nurse Practitioner in partnership with MUSC in accordance with state licensure requirements. 

Qualifications:

  • Current South Carolina LPN License  
  • CPR/BLS certifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, preferably with children with disabilities
  • Experience in pediatric, school, or community nursing settings preferred
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and families 

Responsibilities:

The Licensed Practical Nurse’s duties, though not exhaustive, comprise the following:

  • Administers prescribed medications.
  • Assists with children's personal hygiene needs, including oral feeding, tube feeding, toileting, and catheterization.
  • Implements interventions such as breathing treatments, suctioning, changing dressings, etc.
  • Monitors basic student health, including taking vitals as needed.
  • Implement established emergency protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Assess and triage medical situations, providing immediate care and intervention as needed until further medical assistance arrives.
  • Collects and charts health data.
  • Consults with Nursing supervisor concerning health plans.
  • Completes daily documentation required for billing.
  • Follows all Pattison’s Academy policies and procedures.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to the pace and needs of the children and the program.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety requirements.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

We serve over 200 medically complex children in the Lowcountry through four distinct programs.
