Position Summary

As a Finance Associate, you will drive the core accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance functions that power our mission. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will ensure transactional accuracy and strict adherence to grant standards in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional who blends technical accounting expertise with the agility to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of operational excellence.

Core Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Management: Execute full-cycle accounting tasks, including preparing journal entries for payroll and accruals, maintaining the general ledger, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.

  • Accounts Payable & Expense Oversight: Assist with the end-to-end AP process by reviewing, coding, and processing invoices, reconciling employee expenses, and executing timely payment runs.

  • Reconciliation & Accuracy: Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are identified and resolved to maintain audit-ready documentation.

  • Grant & Fund Accounting: Monitor grant-funded expenditures for compliance, support cost allocations across funding sources, and assist with specialized financial reporting for program stakeholders.

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Compile data to produce internal financial reports and budget-to-actual analyses to support executive leadership decision-making.

  • Budgetary Alignment: Ensure all financial transactions, expenses, and coding are strictly aligned with departmental budgets and specific grant funding requirements.

  • Systems & Process Optimization: Utilize accounting and human capital management systems such as Blackbaud Financial Edge, QuickBooks, Paycom, or similar platforms to maintain organized records and recommend workflow improvements.

  • AI-Driven Productivity: Leverage Google Workspace AI tools-including Gemini for data automation and formula assistance, and NotebookLM for synthesizing complex grant and compliance documentation.

  • Cross-Functional Support: Act as a technical resource for the Finance Department, assisting the Controller with financial accuracy and responding to organization-wide finance-related requests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience or a mix of education and certifications will also be considered.

  • Experience: Open to early-career professionals with 0–3 years of experience in accounting or finance. We highly value relevant internships, volunteer financial work, or high-level academic projects as professional equivalents.

  • Technical Excellence: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, data analysis) and a general "tech-forward" mindset for adopting new software and AI tools.

  • Accounting Core: A solid grasp of GAAP, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. You should be comfortable moving from "data entry" to "data analysis".

  • Detail & Integrity: Exceptional attention to detail with an uncompromising commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive organizational data.

  • Organizational Agility: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment where collaboration is key.

Bonus Points if You Have:

  • Nonprofit Expertise: Experience navigating the unique requirements of a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.

  • System Familiarity: Hands-on experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar specialized accounting software.

  • HRIS Knowledge: Familiarity with Human Capital Management (HCM) systems like Paycom.

  • Audit Readiness: A background in supporting audits and internal compliance processes.

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans designed to support the well-being of our team members and their families.
