Department: Health Services

Reports to: Billing Manager

Compensation: $21.47-$28.33 per hour, plus $1.75 per hour Shift Differential Premium for hours worked between 6pm-6am

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Status: 100%, Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Union

Probation: 90 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:  As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBTQ medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Billing Manager the Patient Account Biller will be responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Billing Team. These responsibilities include charge entry, payment entry, account reconciliation, claims follow up and denial management in accordance with all accepted billing and collection practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•    Charge entry, coding, and cash reconciliation.

•    Payment entry including processing refunds on paper and/or electronically.

•    Generating, reviewing, and transmitting patient’s statements and notices on paper and/or electronically.

•    Monitor patient accounts for appropriate insurance assignments.

•    Claim follow up and denial management.

•    Respond to client questions and complaints regarding billing issues and document the outcome in AllScriptsPM.

•    Attend Center, Health Services and Health Information Services meetings as required.

•    Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

•    Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

•    A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

•    Working knowledge of current CPT and ICD10 codes.

•    Knowledge of medical terminology.

•    Knowledge of reimbursement and denial codes.

•    Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational skills, strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

•    Computer skills, including a working knowledge of Excel.

•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
