About Us: California Montessori Project (CMP) is a successful public charter school network based in the greater Sacramento area with an exceptional TK-8 Montessori program that is tuition-free and open to all students. The network serves over 3,000 students on seven campuses. CMP is authorized through, and maintains strong relationships with four school districts: Elk Grove Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District, San Juan Unified School District and Buckeye Union School District. 

CMP teachers are supported in pursuing dual-certification, holding a Montessori certification from an AMS-accredited training center and a California state credential. The CMP Leadership Team, including the Governing Board, Directors, Principals, and Deans, provide stability and focused guidance to the organization. Summary/Objective

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support students with communication disorders. The SLPA helps implement therapy plans, prepares materials, and provides direct and indirect services to students, contributing to CMP’s mission of supporting each child’s academic and social success.

Essential Functions

• Deliver direct speech and language services to students under the supervision of an Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

• Implement therapy activities designed by the supervising SLP to support speech, language, and communication goals.

• Prepare and organize instructional and therapy materials.

• Collect and document data on student performance and progress toward goals.

• Maintain accurate and timely records as required by CMP, state, and federal guidelines.

• Support the administration of speech and language screenings under SLP direction.

• Communicate with teachers, staff, and parents regarding student progress as guided by the SLP.

• Assist in maintaining therapy spaces, equipment, and supplies.

• Follow ethical and professional standards consistent with ASHA and state licensing requirements.

• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions.

• This position does not supervise others.

Work Environment

This job operates in a school/classroom setting. The role requires working directly with students, teachers, and related service providers. The employee may be assigned to multiple school sites where students, staff, and families are present. Work may include indoor and outdoor settings, with occasional exposure to varied temperatures, noise levels, and public interaction.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• Proper Techniques: Utilizing appropriate techniques for assisting students with physical

disabilities or behavioral challenges to prevent injury to both students and staff.

any allergies or medical conditions that students may have.

Travel Requirements

Minimal. May require occasional travel between CMP campuses or to district meetings. Adherence to CMP’s Motor Vehicle Use policy is required.

Required Education and Experience

• Associate’s Degree from a community college or technical training program from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) program. 

• Current certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience working in a school setting

• Bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from an accredited institution. 

• College degree (associate’s or bachelor’s) from an accredited institution plus completion of an SLPA certificate program with equivalent coursework.
