Job Description
The Villages Charter School (VCS) opened in August 2000 and is one of the most successful public charter schools in Florida. In fact, VCS has been a "High Performing Charter School", earned a "School of Excellence" and has received 22 straight "A" ratings from the Florida Department of Education! This year, VCS earned the “Cognia School and Systems of Distinction” from the international accreditation group Cognia.
The Villages Charter School spans two campuses. Our Buffalo Ridge campus has three elementary attendance centers and one middle school building. Our newest campus, “Middleton”, opened in August 2023 with a K-8 center and a state-of-the-art high school complex.
VCS currently serves over 4100 students, kindergarten through 12th grades with an overall capacity of 6500 (500 students per grade level) across both campuses.

DESCRIPTION:
The Villages Charter School is accepting applications for a High School Counselor/Testing Proctor for the 2026-2027 School year. This role is essential in providing comprehensive support and guidance to students as they navigate their academic, personal, and professional journeys. The Villages High School Counselor will be a key advocate for student success, assisting with academic planning, college and career readiness, and social-emotional wellness. As testing proctor the candidate will be responsible for proctoring Career and Technical Education Industry Certifications and College Board exams, ensuring assessment integrity compliance, and supporting students in achieving workforce-ready credentials.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with the mission and goals of The Villages Charter School and the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned:
Course Planning: Guide students through course selection and academic scheduling to ensure graduation requirements are met, as well as plan for future career and college goals.
Student Success: Implement proactive strategies to improve student achievement, retention and prevent dropouts. Collaborate with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration to identify and reduce barriers to student success.
Orientation: Oversee the registration and orientation of new students to ensure a seamless transition into the school community.
Records Management: Maintain accurate, confidential student records in compliance with Board policy and state regulations.
Post-Secondary Planning: Assist students with career exploration, college applications, and scholarship recommendations.
Field Experiences: Help plan and participate in guidance field trips to colleges, universities, and local industries.
Information Sharing: Act as a liaison by providing necessary student information to post-secondary institutions and potential employers.
Individual & Group Support: Provide personal academic counseling for students regarding academics, health, emotional adjustments, family relations, and attendance.
Support Services: Screen and refer students for needed support programs such as: RTI, Counseling, and 504 Plans. Participate in related program meetings and maintain required documentation for these specialized programs.
Crisis Management: Assist in the supervision and control of students during the school day and in emergency conditions as directed by the Principal.
Parental Engagement: Collaborate with families to support students academic and social emotional needs. Organize and lead conferences with parents and guardians to support student development.
Faculty and Administrative Support: Support faculty/students by serving as a liaison between students, families, faculty, staff and administration. Support faculty by leading parent conferences, creating/supporting student academic plans, and informing teachers of students’ barriers to education. Advise administrators on mental health challenges, as well as behavioral matters. Assist in the orientation and training of new faculty members.
Community Liaison: Interpret and promote the school’s guidance program to the wider community and external resources.
Test Proctoring Responsibilities
Testing Integrity: Follow all test platforms and state procedures for secure administration of industry certifications and College Board exams. Set up and manage safe and secure testing environments for all assessments.
Facility Readiness: Ensure all testing labs and equipment meet the technical specifications required by third-party vendors (e.g., Certiport, iCEV, NHA, AEST, CIW).
Security Protocols: Maintain strict security of testing materials and student data, conducting audits to ensure integrity throughout the assessment process.
Accommodations: Collaborate with the ESE and 504 departments to ensure all students receive appropriate testing accommodations as required by law.
Communication: Ability to write professional reports and deliver effective presentations to colleagues, parents, and the public.
Analytical Reasoning: Ability to interpret professional journals and governmental regulations to ensure program compliance.
Mathematical Proficiency: Ability to calculate figures for data analysis and apply basic algebraic concepts where necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Masters Degree or higher from an accredited educational institute.
One to Two years of related experience and/or training
Must hold or be eligible for certification by the State of Florida in School Counseling.
Such additional or alternative qualifications to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is moderate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
221 days – Exempt. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the VCS policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board.
