Job Description

Position Title: Community Engagement Specialist

Reports To: EVP of Membership

Department: Recruitment

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Batavia, NY & Genesee County

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Engagement Specialist develops and implements recruitment strategies to raise awareness of Girl Scouts and recruits new girls and adult volunteers into Girl Scouts. This role requires day travel and regular evening and weekend work to meet with, present to, and network with community organizations, schools, corporations, educators, faith-based institutions, and other community partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Other duties may be assigned as needed by Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY).

• Recruit new girls and volunteer members into Girl Scouts by initiating contact with prospective members and volunteers

• Identify target populations and focus recruitment efforts accordingly

• Schedule and conduct meetings and presentations with schools, community organizations, corporations, educators, faith-based institutions, and other stakeholders

• Participate in lead generation activities, including school open houses, fall festivals, community events, and volunteer events

• Plan and lead council recruitment events (e.g., Daisy Teas, Princess Parties) to register new members

• Distribute recruitment flyers to schools, community organizations, and through various marketing channels to drive new membership

• Support existing girls and volunteers, and collaborate with current volunteers on recruitment initiatives

• Support council-wide, regional, and functional initiatives as needed

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Sales or recruitment experience with a strong motivation to meet goals

• Self-motivated with the ability to manage responsibilities independently

• Creative, organized, and detail-oriented

• Comfortable handling rejection and engaging uninterested parties professionally

• Confident, friendly, outgoing, and personable

• Excellent oral communication and presentation skills

• Ability to present to both small and large groups

• Willingness and ability to learn and effectively use Salesforce for lead tracking

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Salesforce, and social media platforms

• Passion for the Girl Scout mission

• Commitment to GSWNY Operational Core Values

HOURS & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• 70-75% travel required; must have reliable access to a vehicle

• Evening and weekend work is expected

GIRL SCOUT MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT

All employees of Girl Scouts of Western New York are required to maintain an active annual membership. New hires must enroll within 30 days of employment, and membership must be renewed annually.
