Job Title: Upholstery Builder

Classification: Non-Exempt

Job Purpose: The purpose of the Upholstery Builder is to prepare upholstery parts for seats and other upholstered items, including tacking and attaching the vinyl covers (skins) onto proper parts before they are installed into the boats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use a screw gun to install bolts into pre-drilled holes and tighten.
  • Inspect skins for defects and trim excess threads and vinyl.
  • Places skins over parts and aligns stripes.
  • Pulls vinyl tight over part and staples around edges, ensuring that edges and stripes stay aligned.
  • Finish with a screen and hem when necessary.
  • Inspects all parts after production to ensure that all parts are complete and up to quality standards.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to use hand tools, including foam knives, razor knives, hole saws, scissors, heat and staple guns, and steamer.
  • Must be able to understand instructional materials and work-related documents.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Capability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent level of training
  • One or more years of experience in general labor

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend at waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb into and out of the interior of boats.
  • Continuous use of hands
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions, a normal office environment or factory environment that is not climate controlled. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The factory in certain areas maintains a high fiberglass and dust environment. 

Personal Protective Equipment might be required in certain areas of the factory including but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, gloves, and protective garments.
