Job Description

UPMC is hiring a full-time Mental Health Counselor I for Western Behavioral Health at Mon Yough in White Oak, PA. The role involves providing and coordinating counseling and casework services within the MH Residential Programs, and assisting individuals with daily living, financial, socialization, mobility, and survival skills.

The position supports the Long Run Road Personal Care Home, an 18-bed facility for adults with mental illness. Ideal candidates should be supportive, proficient in administering medications, thorough in completing assignments, and reliable in covering shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The shifts for this position are Saturday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Tuesday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $3,500!

Responsibilities:

·       Working at various sites and familiarizing with orientation binders.

·       Working independently under stress without imposing personal beliefs.

·       Staying calm and supportive in emergencies.

·       Establishing effective relationships with consumers and meeting weekly to discuss progress and goals.

·       Providing education, guidance, and crisis intervention.

·       Assessing and documenting consumer functioning, developing service plans, and completing required documentation.

·       Being flexible with work schedules and staying awake during shifts.

·       Providing quality services regardless of consumer issues.

·       Assisting with medical appointments, financial assistance, daily living skills, and public transportation.

·       Orienting consumers to the community and educating on emergency procedures.

·       Teaching social skills and encouraging recreational activities.

·       Communicating with the treatment team and attending relevant meetings.

·       Acting as a liaison to service providers as per the consumer's service plan.



·       High School diploma or equivalent with (1) year related experience

·       Driving is an essential job responsibility; therefore, must possess a valid PA driver's license and grant MYCS authorization to initiate a Driver History Review including the state Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR). MVR must meet the required agency standards. Incumbent must be accepted by agency insurance.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

·       Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

·       Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

·       Driver's License

·       Act 34 with renewal
