Job Description

3rd Shift – Monday – Friday Core hours: 11:00pm – 7:30am

SUMMARY

The Plastics Press Operator is assigned to one or more injection molding machines and/or secondary operations used to produce injected molded plastic products and performs functions including pulling newly molded parts from the conveyer belt, trimming, sanding, marking, packing plastic components to meet customer standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Observes machine operation, work instructions, remove parts, and separates runner from product and load inserts as necessary for required jobs.
  • Sorts parts from family molds by different sizes, shapes, or dimensions, cavities, etc.  
  • Performs secondary operations such as trimming gates and/or flash, assemblies, fixturing, sonic welding, pad printing, hot stamping, drilling, tapping, etc.
  • Observes thermometer and turns steam valve to maintain specified temperature in melting hopper.
  • Inspects parts visually for defects such as short shots, flash and contamination, and informs Shift Supervisor of any deviation from quality retains.
  • Gages or measures parts dimensionally and informs Shift Supervisor of any deviation from standards.
  • Separates nonconforming products and attaches identifying nonconforming reports with accurate information per operating procedures/work instructions.
  • Packs products into cartons for shipping and attaches proper identification with accurate information per operating procedures/work instructions.
  • Maintains production count records, and statistical process control charts per operating procedures.
  • Granulates runners and scrap, cleans work area, machines and equipment as required.

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude. 
  • Knowledge of safety and quality practices and expectations.
  • Intermediate skill in problem solving.
  • Actively participating in Bergstrom’s continuous improvement program.
  • Basic computer skills (i.e., email, data entry) needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school education or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Basic reading and math

PREFERRED:

  • Minimum of 3 months experience working with Materials or Plastics.
  • Ability to conduct physical inventory. 
  • Ability to read blueprints and work instructions. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of LEAN processes including 5S, FIFO and Kanban process.

The budgeted range for this role is $17.25 USD - $18.25 USD per hour The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the desired level of experience for the position.
