Job Description

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) I provides a variety of administrative, clinical nursing, health education, and outreach services within the community health center. Basic skills for physical assessment include observation, auscultation, palpation, and percussion. Basic mental status assessment includes observation of general behavior, appearance, and attitude, collection of data relative to sensorium or orientation to time, person, and place, and assessment of recall ability. When the LVN notes a problem, complication, or abnormality, he/she must notify the physician or Registered Nursing Supervisor under whose direction the licensee functions. The LVN cannot independently evaluate or synthesize data.

Reports to: 

Direct & Administrative: Registered Nurse Supervisor, Program Manager, Clinic Administrator or designee 

Technical/Clinical: Licensed Independent Practitioner in consultation with the Director of Nursing Services or designee

Qualifications:

1.While an entry-level position, experience in practical nursing is desirable, preferably in an ambulatory patient facility.
2.Must be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalency.
3.Satisfactory completion of a state-approved program in vocational nursing, plus current license to practice in the State of California.
4.Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
5.Displays qualities of dependability and reliability, is willing to accept a variety of tasks, and can comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
6.Be able to communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity, with staff, patients, and family members. 
7.Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
8.Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
9.Must demonstrate through written and oral testing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, and know the principles of growth and development over the life span. They can identify and categorize each patient's age-specific group needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients.
10.Fluency in English (speaks, reads and writes).
11.Fluency in Spanish (speaks, interpret, reads, and writes).
12.Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient information.
13.Ability to utilize electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments. 
14.If the position is located at a School Base Clinic, the employee must be willing to submit fingerprints in a manner authorized by the California Department of Justice, with no adverse findings.
15.Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
