The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient role is based in the basement pharmacy at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, supporting a 90-bed hospital that operates as a smaller-volume inpatient setting with a lean, highly collaborative team. The pharmacy team includes approximately eight pharmacy technicians and sixteen pharmacists who support overall medication operations across service areas including the emergency department, outpatient infusion, ICU, and step-down units. Caregivers in this role rotate through multiple responsibilities, including operating the manual carousel, supporting sterile compounding (both hazardous and non-hazardous), managing automated dispensing cabinets such as Pyxis, and assisting with medication distribution throughout the hospital. Technicians are cross-trained across all operational areas, creating a dynamic role that offers broad inpatient pharmacy experience while supporting safe, efficient medication delivery for patient care.
A caregiver in this position will work five, eigtht hour shifts in a two week period including shifts ranging from 6am-9pm with occasional coverage for night shift (9:00pm–7:00am) as needed. Caregivers are scheduled every third weekend working either 7:00am–3:30pm or 12:30pm–9:00pm, and are required to work two holidays per year, with scheduling balanced across major holidays.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:
Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
AND it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee. If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Six months of hospital experience
Physical Requirements:
Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
