Job Details

The Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for the care of the patient admitted to the Program.  They are responsible for group, patient education and individual treatment sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Possess knowledge of the signs and symptoms of alcoholism and other addictions.
  •  Assess patients for the diagnosis of alcoholism and other addictions, as well as other life areas that may have been affected by alcohol and/or substance addiction.
  •  Documents the results of all assessments and treatment notes regarding patient progress. All notes will describe in “clinical terms” patients actual progress in groups, individual sessions and family sessions.                                 
  •  Conduct patient education lectures weekly regarding recovery issues.                          
  •  Contact the patient’s insurance carrier for concurrent reviews on the due dates, inform the carrier of the patient’s discharge plan and information within 24 hours of the patient’s discharge. Documentation of all conversations with the insurance carriers is necessary.
  •  Communicates all pertinent information to referral sources, probation, parole, CPS, treatment courts, etc.
  •  Communicates all pertinent patient information to Primary Counselor and other program staff.        Participates in Performance Improvement efforts.
  •  Demonstrates behaviors that foster teamwork and a positive work environment
  •  Initiates evaluations of patients within 24 hours of admission.
  •  Develops measurable and manageable goals for individual patients.
  •  Documents all pertinent patient information in patient records: phone calls, individual sessions, referral calls, weekly team notes, admission note, ASIS, telephone screenings etc.
  • Conducts lectures and other patient education as required by the program and to meet the needs of the program.

Requirements:

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent, 350 hrs. CASAC Schooling (Vocational or College level)

Licensure/Certification:

NYS CASAC or CASAC-T required, at least 6 months as a counselor in Chemical Dependency

1-2 years of experience is preferred in the Chemical Dependency field & AOD education.

Provide counseling services to inpatients in the inpatient rehabilitation program.

Must be adept at group counseling, completing patient assessments, providing lectures to patients and completing appropriate discharge planning.



Salary Range

USD $23.80 - USD $39.55 /Hr.



Salary range for a non-certified counselor: $23.80-$35.03

Salary range for a certified counselor: $28.25-$39.55
