Education Through Music-LA

Events & Outreach INTERN

Paid Internship: $17.87/hour; effective July 1, 2026 the rate will be $18.47/hour - 400 hours to be completed between June 1, 2026-March 1, 2027

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Events & Outreach Intern will work with the Education Through Music-LA staff to assist with event and program/community outreach and support, create marketing collateral, and develop external partnerships to further the mission of ETM-LA. Additionally, the Events & Outreach Intern will create social media posts, assist with spotlight stories and obtain quotes/footage, and assist with program and development data evaluation/assessment to develop a deeper understanding of the data for marketing purposes. 

QUALIFICATIONS

The intern should display an earnest interest in arts education and must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable. Interest in the coordination of special events, community outreach, Communications/PR, and writing, media/film, social media, Canva, & engaging with people is favorable for this position. Basic computer skills, such as Google Workspace, Word, and Excel, are necessary. Being an initiative taker and a team player with an interest in the field of education, a positive attitude, personal motivation, and a desire to learn about nonprofit organizations are also a must.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

2026 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 - December 1, 2026. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as disabled students, to apply. Eligible students may participate in the program once.

Note:

  • Students who have already earned a BA, BS, or a higher degree are not eligible for the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.
  • High school students who are co-enrolled in college classes are not eligible.
  • Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to participate a second time.
  • Students must possess the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Students who are invited to participate in the program will be asked to provide verification of eligibility via college transcripts, driver’s license, and other documents to show enrollment status and/or LA County residence.

Education Through Music-Los Angeles-

Education Through Music–Los Angeles'​ mission is to provide and promote the integration of music into the curricula of disadvantaged schools in order to enhance students'​ academic performance and creative and general development. Education Through Music-Los Angeles is an independent 501(c)3 based on the successful ETM model (New York, 1991). We believe that every child deserves a well-rounded education: one that includes music. Education Through Music-Los Angeles puts yearlong, weekly quality music education programs back into disadvantaged schools for every child, including those with special needs. 2006: Began programming in Los Angeles in 2 schools serving 800 children. 2007: ETM-LA is honored at City Hall for our work impacting the lives of Los Angeles children. 2009: ETM-LA is featured on KNBC with Grammy-winning violinist Joshua Bell. 2010: Fox Glee & American Express Members Project invite 60 ETM-LA students to work with the Glee cast. 2011: Actor/Musician Ed Helms (The Office, The Lorax) joins ETM-LA's Advisory Board. 2012: Academy Award-winner Michael Giacchino (Disney-Pixar Up) champions music education in ETM-LA schools and at benefit gala. 2013: ETM-LA expands and in 8th year serves 13 schools and approximately 6,000 children. 2014: ETM-LA partners with Burbank, Compton, Los Angeles and Pasadena Unified School Districts serving 16 schools and approximately 7,000 children. ETM-LA's work in the Burbank Unified helps result in the expansion and hiring of two new elementary school music teachers to move towards their goal of weekly, sequential comprehensive music instruction. 2015-16: 10 Year Anniversary!! ETM-LA features Artists Common, En Vogue, Michelle Branch, Eric McCormack and more at our annual gala, and is partnered with 20 schools reaching approximately 10,000 children.
