Job Description

Summary

The Sewing & Torch Operator participates in monitoring material to ensure product corresponds to the agreed customer requirements and meets Quality Control requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read construction sheet and customer requirement sheet fully in order to meet the customer requirements.
  • Assist co-workers in machine setups.
  • Assisting co-workers in wrapping and strapping material.
  • Participate in reporting any quality problems to Supervisor immediately.
  • Label any problem areas in the liner.
  • Participate in verifying that correct machine settings are in use.
  • Responsible for setting sewing machine to appropriate RPM.
  • Responsible for attaching leaders and keeping them identified clearly if needed.
  • Responsible for filling out torch operator check sheets for each production run
  • Responsible for verifying rolls/innerbags each match the construction sheet prior to the line running.
  • Monitor sewn joints for defects like overlaps, gaps, skips in stitching, etc., and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Responsible for cleaning machine parts per cleaning schedule.
  • Responsible for splicing thread spools together.
  • Monitor sewing machine oil.
  • Inspect spools of thread for quality.
  • Inspect sewing machine needle daily for rough edges or excessive wear.
  • Assist with the positioning of joints.
  • Keep a constant check of weld (centered and where possible, solid).
  • Ensure press roller is down during the entire duration of a run.
  • Check propane tank weight daily.
  • Stay in assigned working area.
  • Perform maintenance duties as needed.
  • Continually review supplies and report to your Supervisor any shortages.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times by following the company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work environment by performing cleaning duties as required.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.
  • Will at times be asked to perform other duties.

Education & Experience

  • GED/High School Diploma or previous manufacturing experience
  • Satisfactorily complete 3 months on-the-job training

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday but could include shift work, weekends, evenings and/or holidays - flexibility is required as job duties demand.
