Industrial Maintenance Technician- 2nd shift!

Location: Lake in the Hills, IL
Schedule: 2nd Shift- Monday-Friday 2pm-10:30pm (Training on 1st shift for 6-8 weeks)
Compensation: $30-$34/hour + $2.50 Second Shift Differential 

AFC is seeking a hands-on Industrial Maintenance Technician to support the repair, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our production equipment and facility. This role is responsible for troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate has experience working in a manufacturing environment and brings a strong mix of mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge, including working with machinery, drives, and process equipment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Takes daily instruction and supervision from department lead and supervisor. 
  • Mechanically inclined with experience in assembling and repairing frames and fixtures, process equipment, and drives. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in electrical controls and mechanical parts of machinery. 
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and assembly. 
  • Read equipment prints and control diagrams to build machinery, enhance current processes, and troubleshoot problems. 
  • Ability to understand production processes. 
  • Maintain shop area and requisition the necessary parts. 
  • Troubleshoot and maintain control panels. 
  • Work safely with a wide variety of machines and hand tools (e.g. welders, torches, drills/drill press, grinders, volt meters, band saw, spray painting, forklifts, and high lift (JLG) 
  • Light building maintenance; monitoring the building exterior and interior for maintenance needs and handling the repair. 
  • Monitor equipment for scheduled maintenance and repair. 
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on current machinery. 
  • Installation support for new equipment. 
  • Knowledge of pipe fitting, wiring, and maintenance plumbing. 
  • Maintain necessary maintenance logs, parts lists, and reference material. 
  • Communicate with department managers and machine operators to gain a working knowledge of various machines, and quickly resolve M&R issues. 
  • Work with maintenance system Limble. 
  • Issue, assign and manage work orders. 
  • Open and close tickets. 
  • Follow PM’s and manage maintenance reports. 
  • Add additional information on equipment. 
  • Train others and understand the equipment.

Physical and Visual Activities:   Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, reaching, climbing, handling, typing, feeling, hearing, acute vision (far), acute vision (near), depth perception, field of vision, crouching, twisting.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally team-lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Comfortable using “Powered Man Lift” (Genie or JLG) to service elevated machine parts. 

Requirements

Technical Knowledge: 

  • Language skills.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to communicate effectively with operators, supervisors, and managers.   
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics. 
  • Mathematical skills.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 
  • Reasoning Ability.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills 

Coursework or equivalent experience: 

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Certificates in electrical knowledge, welding, and sheet metal fabrication preferred. 
  • Certificate in heating and air conditioning preferred. 

Job-related testing: 

  • Forklift Operator testing. 

Experience:  The average person with the required knowledge and experience is expected to learn to perform the functions of the job at a fully functioning level of proficiency within 6 months.
