Job Description

Are you a dedicated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for maintaining a clean and welcoming environment? Do you take pride in ensuring that public spaces are well-kept and inviting for all visitors? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Full-Time Custodian at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library!  As a Full-Time Custodian, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of our public library spaces. You will be responsible for ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for both customers and staff. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Checks buildings and grounds for safety hazards.
  • Maintains floors, including stairs and halls, by vacuuming, sweeping, waxing, buffing and mopping.
  • Does routine cleaning of offices, public areas, rest rooms and staff lounge, dusting, polishing, emptying wastebaskets, sorting recyclables and removing trash and recyclables.
  • Assists with general groundskeeping work: weeding, raking, irrigation, snow and ice removal and washing windows.
  • Performs special tasks which may involve heavy lifting and moving of furniture and equipment, such as setting up meeting room, moving file cabinets, assembling of furniture, etc.
  • May drive the library van on a scheduled delivery route to each branch library. 
  • Unloads and loads materials and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent.  Valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record as shown by a motor vehicle report from the BMV.  Willingness to learn and follow cleaning and maintenance procedures.  Some light maintenance skills highly desirable.  Position is subject to pre-employment, post-accident and random drug/alcohol screening.

This is a full-time position, scheduled for 40 hours/week.  Work schedule will include some evenings and weekends.  Please refer to the Core Competencies for Library Staff on the library’s website, www.wtcpl.org.

CONNECTIONS TO GROW YOUR SKILLS - The W-TCPL has Internet-accessible computers available for public use at each of its six locations. A variety of free computer classes on topics from computer basics and word processing to social media platforms and online databases are offered at most library locations. CONNECTIONS TO BUSINESS RESOURCES - The W-TCPL offers access to dozens of online resources including databases, directories, videos, tutorials, and research guides on topics ranging from business and health to motor vehicle repair. CONNECTIONS TO YOUR FAMILY HISTORY - The Local History & Genealogy Center located in the Main Library in Warren contains research materials and maintains an online photo archive at www.trumbullmemory.org. Free genealogy classes are offered at several library locations to teach helpful tools for those interested in researching their family tree.
