Job Description

We’re looking for a culturally tapped-in, NYC-based Social Media Intern to help capture and amplify what’s happening across the city. This role is built for someone who lives outside, understands the energy of New York, and knows how to turn real-world moments into content people actually care about .

In addition to real-time cultural documentation for Okayplayer NYC through event attendance and neighborhood exploration, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Attend NYC-based events, parties, restaurants, pop-ups, and cultural happenings on behalf of Okayplayer NYC
  • Capture high-quality photo and video content (Reels, TikToks, Stories, short-form video) in real time
  • Identify trending moments, emerging spots, and culturally relevant experiences across NYC
  • Create and edit social-first content optimized for Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms
  • Write captions that reflect Okayplayer’s voice and resonate with a NYC audience
  • Publish content or hand off assets quickly for timely posting
  • Conduct on-the-ground interviews (man-on-the-street, quick hits, event coverage)
  • Collaborate with the social and editorial teams on content ideas and coverage plans
  • Track content performance and contribute ideas to improve reach and engagement
  • Represent the Okayplayer brand professionally at events and in public spaces

We are seeking a candidate who is deeply immersed in the culture we

represent, to be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Based in NYC and able to travel frequently across boroughs
  • Deep understanding of NYC culture, nightlife, food, music, and events
  • Strong instincts for what makes engaging social content (especially short-form video)
  • Comfortable shooting content on a smartphone (bonus: experience with cameras or mics)
  • Basic editing skills (CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or similar tools)
  • Strong communication skills and confidence approaching people for interviews
  • Reliable, responsive, and able to move quickly in fast-paced environments
  • Available to work nights and weekends (this is when most of the content happens)
  • Passion for hip-hop, global Black culture, and the Okayplayer brand

Nice to Have:

  • Personal social media presence or portfolio showcasing content creation
  • Experience covering events, nightlife, or local businesses
  • Existing network within NYC creative, nightlife, or cultural scenes
