Job Description

Position Summary/Purpose: Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs.

GCU maintains a partnership with NextGen Creatives. NextGen Creatives’ mission is to draw out the creative gifts and talents of youth within the foster care system. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of NextGen Creatives; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring). If eligible, CSLP student workers can work during summer (i.e., May – August).

CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community.

As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents).

Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:

Design and illustrate books, workbooks, and children’s products using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva. Lead on-site “creative literacy” stations during community events where foster youth are engaging and learning provided materials. Collaborate with “A Hope & A Future” to customize educational assets specific for their youth. Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage

Anticipated End Date: June 30, 2027
