Job Description

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a registered nurse performs a variety of patient care functions to provide assistance in carrying out patient care assignments. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the patients. Assists registered nurse with all aspects of the nursing process including, but not limited to, assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data, following the nursing management plan, and monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions. Provides and/or reinforces patient instruction. Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department Policy and Procedure. Functions as a patient sitter for safety watch cases. Assists in the overall function of the nursing unit under direction of a registered nurse. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility as a hospital employee. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control, in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Active licensure as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Rhode Island Current certification in Basic Life Support through the American Heart AssociationCurrent matriculation in a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited Baccalaureate Degree Program in Nursing is preferred.Candidates in an accredited Associates Degree Program will color:red also be considered.Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.EXPERIENCE:Completion of at least one clinical rotation in an acute care hospital setting. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking. Exposed to all patient elements. Will be required to lift/turn patients and equipment. Repeated bending, squatting, stooping.INDEPENDENT ACTION:Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse within the scope of Hospital and department policies and procedures. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required. Supervisory staff is physically present most of the time. Performs approved nursing procedures as delegated by the registered nurse and in compliance with Brown University Health policies and procedures. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.

Pay Range:

$18.00-$25.82
