Job Description

    

KVC Kentucky supports the development and preparation of future human service professionals through collaborating with local Colleges and Universities to host students completing internships and practicums as required by their degree programs. Bachelor and master’s level students in the fields of Social Work, Psychology, Family Studies, Counseling, Nursing and other related social services disciplines shadow case managers and clinicians in KVC Kentucky behavioral health and child welfare programs.   

All programs deliver community based behavioral health services to children and families in their home, school, and communities, with the goal of increasing safety, permanency, and well-being to prevent out of the home placement.  Students will engage in individual and family-based sessions, as well as a team based approach to treatment that involves a collaborative, strengths based philosophy of care.  

Students will participate in individual and group supervision as well as weekly case consultation with KVC team members.  Students will have the opportunity to engage in sessions with clinicians utilizing any of the following evidence-based interventions including Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT); Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT); Motivational Interviewing; Trauma Systems Treatment; Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP); Functional Family Therapy (FFT); MultiSystemic Therapy (MST); Nurturing Parenting Program; Child Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE) Skills; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).  

KVC Behavioral HealthCare Kentucky, Inc. serves more than 80 counties across Kentucky and has offices in the following locations: Lexington, Richmond, Morehead, Ashland, Frankfort, Hazard, Prestonsburg, Louisville, Somerset, London, and Florence. Student placement opportunities are contingent upon availability of site supervisor, ability to meet college program requirements, and placement openings. All placements are made at the discretion of the agency.  

Student responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:  

-Observe on-site supervisor conducting clinical and case management sessions including intake, screening, assessment, treatment planning, and discharge processes with clients  

-Observe and practice completing case management and clinical documentation, such as assessments, treatment plans, service tickets, and psychosocial assessments  

-Review and adhere to agency and program policies, procedures, and regulations  

-Observe and practice administering, reviewing, scoring, and interpreting outcome forms  

-Observe and assist with preparation and implementation of therapeutic groups for children and adolescents  

-Observe and assist in preparation and implementation of evidence-based practice interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE) Skills, Parent Nurturing, or Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) interventions.  Students may have the opportunity to co-facilitate interventions under the direct observation of the approved provider  

-Maintain weekly individual and/or group supervision with on-site supervisor and Field Placement instructor per agency and program requirements  

-Attend agency meetings, including monthly staff meeting and evidence-based practice trainings  

-Assist in special projects as determined by agency supervisor or management team members  

Student requirements:      

-Successful completion of Criminal (AOC) and Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background checks.  

-Successful completion of positive reference checks.  

-Complete new employee orientation.  

-Maintain current driver’s license and automobile insurance.  

-Provide own transportation to appointments if necessary.  

-Maintain flexibility in scheduling and attend appointments after normal business hours if necessary.  

-Adhere to all KVC Company Policies and Procedures; including, but not limited to the following:  

1. Professional dress as outlined in the company handbook  

2.Maintain confidentiality  

3. Attend supervision  

4. Follow reporting laws  

5. Maintain client rights  

6. Risk management policies  

7. Emergency and safety procedures
