Job Description

BMG has an exciting opportunity for a Machinist Apprentice located in Beaverton, MI.  They will perform entry level machine shop tasks while learning basic machinist skills through interaction with qualified senior BMG personnel and off site classroom instruction.   Includes manual machine operation, milling, boring and drilling, and basic programming.

APPRENTICESHIP DETAILS:

  1. Two year program - earn while you learn
  2. Paid, hands-on training for CNC machining
  3. Coursework through Mid-Michigan College
  4. Work towards an AIM Machine Tooling Training Certificate

 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  2. Seek advice and instruction from appropriate personnel when beginning a new or unfamiliar task.
  3. Accept assignment to a wide variety of tasks to increase the scope of understanding.
  4. Ensure material to be machined is correct for the job.
  5. Program and/or operate machine at proper speeds and feeds for material being machined.

  EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED or working towards one.
  2. Two years’ recent high school level machine shop instruction preferred.
  3. Ability to perform assigned tasks with some verbal instruction and interaction with supervisors and other qualified senior personnel.
  4. Basic math skills to include trigonometry, etc.
  5. Ability to work with minimum tolerances of .001”.
  6. Basic computer skills.

 ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Lift, push, and pull up 35 to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Walk for extended periods of time.
  • May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion.
  • Must be able to access and navigate within each department at the organization’s facilities (i.e. climb stairs, ladders, etc.)
