Description

Job Summary: An entry-level position this individual will assist in maintaining the overall plant by performing basic

general maintenance and preventive maintenance duties as assigned. Works on a wide variety of miscellaneous electrical, mechanical, and plumbing duties and servicing operations as well as assisting the Maintenance Technician II and III personnel as directed. 

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Consults with supervisor concerning assignments and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems.
  • Receives assignments and work orders, establishes priorities, and arranges time schedule to maximize effectiveness.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment as appropriate. 
  • Prepares work area, Keeps work areas orderly, clean and safe, and cleans up after work is completed.
  • Performs a variety of routine standard servicing and repair operations to maintain hospital buildings, equipment, furnishing, fixtures and grounds in proper condition as directed.
  • Performs basic electrical work such as replacing fuses, light bulbs, fluorescent ballasts, etc.
  • Performs basic plumbing work such as clearing drains, repairing faucets, etc.
  • Provides general assistance to skilled tradesmen such as Maintenance Technician II and III as wells as outside mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and painters, as directed.
  • Applies cost effective measures in the utilization of materials and time.
  • Assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Attends meetings and in-services as required.
  • Carries out other responsibilities and performs other duties as directed.
  • Reports unsafe conditions as they occur to appropriate person(s) and department managers.

Requirements

Professional Requirements:

  • Appears well groomed and observes the facility dress code.
  • Reports to work as scheduled; minimal absenteeism.
  • Consistently completes assigned duties.
  • Wears identification while on duty.

Education/Regulatory Requirements & Experience:

  • GED or High School Diploma required. If GED, copy must be presented at time of application.
  • 1 or more years of previous similar experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledgeable about electricity, plumbing, and electrical, and mechanical safety preferred.
  • Must possess technical skills and knowledge to perform duties.
  • Must be able to follow direction, both oral and written, and work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing due to driving may be required on occasion, including long distances.
  • Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is preferred.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Skills:

  • Multiple mechanical repair abilities.
