Job Title:                 Mixer

Reports To:             Mixing Manager

SUMMARY: The Mixer is responsible for making all the product necessary for production. 

QUALIFICATIONS to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Follow all safety, food safety, & GMP rules and regulations.
  • Oversee and maintain the food safety and quality of the process and finished product.
  • Keep work area clean and organized by practicing good housekeeping in the immediate work area.
  • Train Mixer Apprentice.
  • Responsible for preparing all materials necessary for production.
  • Acquire appropriate approval for all materials prior to use in production and make corrections to any materials not up to specifications.
  • Ability to Clean-in-place (CIP) batch tanks and holding tanks.  
  • Relieve other Mixer positions during “break time” schedule.
  • Stock ingredients in proper location and rotate stock appropriately.
  • Ability to follow production schedule and provide proper ingredients to fulfill the production schedule.
  • Identify issues that he/she is not able to rectify and communicate them promptly to the Mixing Manager for assistance.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None 

WORK INSTRUCTIONS TO POSITION SOPs are critical to meet customer specifications and maintenance of food safety, quality and process efficiency. Operator’s manual available on each line.

WORK SAFETY Ensures that all tasks and functions of position are performed in a safe manner at all times and that all procedures and requirements are properly followed to accomplish assigned tasks. 

FOOD SAFETY/QUALITY Responsible for food safety and quality as well as reporting food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority if unable to initiate action. 

BACKUP COVERAGE In the absence of this position, a qualified Mixer shall cover the absence.

FOOD SAFETY CULTURE   Embrace a culture of shared values, beliefs and norms that affect mind-set and behavior toward food safety in, across and throughout an organization.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE   HS Diploma or equivalent. Must be able to attend all job related training classes to increase job knowledge and improve job performance. This also encourages confidence and sense of accomplishment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS   Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures and customer specifications. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS   Ability to calculate figures and amounts using calculator.

REASONING ABILITY   Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS Data entry helpful

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS   Successful completion of company forklift certification.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS As required to attend off site training.
