Job Description
Description
The Corewinder Operator will be primarily responsible for setting and operating the spiral tube winder line that winds and seals layers of paper around a mandrel with glue to make paper logs and then cuts to length to create cores. Daily work includes set-up/shutdown, adjusting mandrels, angle of ply’s, maintenance of glue pot(s) and saw (knife blade). This includes set-ups, troubleshooting and producing the paper tubes in adherence to set quality standards. This position reports directly to the Core Winding Supervisor.
Schedule: This position works Monday-Thursday from 5am to 3:30pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Tends winding machine between various stages of processing, working as member of crew.
· Removes spindle from dolly positions spindle in winding machine, using power hoist.
· Pulls end of sheet through winder secures sheet to empty spindle, using tape.
· Starts machine and regulates speed of winder to maintain even winding.
· Measures, spaces, and sets blades and cutters according to product specifications.
· Adjusts tension rolls on machine sets yardage counter using hand tools.
· Examines material for pinholes, using magnifying glass.
· Stops machine when splices reach winder, indicating end of roll.
· Tears or cuts spliced section, tapes end of sheet to prevent unwinding, and removes full spindle from machines.
· Calculates dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as calipers.
· Records locations of pinholes and other imperfections on card attaches card to full spindle.
· Stops machine when necessary to cut out designated defective sections.
· Disposes of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
· Inspects workstations to ensure safety and optimization of tools and processes.
· Maintains a clean and organized work area.
· Follows all company policies and procedures.
· Exhibits regular and predictable attendance.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Exhibits ability to use handheld measuring devices including the use of a micrometer accurately.
· Demonstrates the ability to work at a fast pace with a high level of attention to detail.
· Demonstrates ability to follow detailed instructions.
· Successfully utilizes and understands blueprints.
· Possesses mechanical aptitude.
· Must be trained and certified to operate a forklift.
· Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· Requires a high school diploma/GED.
· Experience with machine operation in a manufacturing setting is required.

· Must be able to lift, push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds consistently, with heavier weight necessary at times.
· Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop and twist frequently for extended periods of time.

· Manual and finger dexterity and hand-arm steadiness is required, as well as the ability to use both hands for packing.
· Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines and inspect parts produced.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment described below is representative of the surroundings an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
· Works within a fast-paced manufacturing environment that is not temperature regulated.
· Personal protective equipment is required as defined with in the hazard analysis sheet defined for this position.
