Job Description

Dayporter 

Overview 

The Dayporter supports the overall appearance and functionality of the property by ensuring that grounds and common areas are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained. This role works closely with the maintenance team to complete daily upkeep tasks and provides assistance with light maintenance and rehab projects to maintain a high-quality living environment. 

Location: LaSalle Park Homes & William C. Ellison communities (South Bend, IN)

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET 

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Key Responsibilities 

Grounds & Exterior Care: 

  • Maintain property grounds by removing litter, debris, weeds, and leaves 
  • Sweep, blow, and clean sidewalks, landings, parking lots, and trash enclosures 
  • Assist with seasonal tasks such as hedge trimming, snow/ice removal, and basic landscaping 
  • Ensure the property reflects strong curb appeal at all times 

Common Area Upkeep:  

  • Clean and maintain shared spaces including lobbies, hallways, laundry rooms, and community areas 
  • Monitor lighting in common areas and replace bulbs as needed 
  • Support trash removal and maintain cleanliness of trash rooms and enclosures 

Maintenance Support:  

  • Assist with painting, touch-ups, and small repairs 
  • Provide support for unit turns and rehab projects, including prep and cleaning work 
  • Safely operate small tools and equipment (drills, blowers, weed eaters, etc.) 
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the Maintenance Supervisor 

Safety & Team Support:  

  • Follow all company safety protocols and comply with OSHA regulations during daily work activities 
  • Report hazardous conditions, safety violations, or maintenance concerns to management immediately 
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safe work practices when operating tools or equipment 
  • Work independently to complete tasks while supporting the property maintenance team 
  • Remain flexible to adjust tasks as priorities shift 

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business needs and contribute to team success. 

Qualifications 

Education & Experience 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or groundskeeping experience preferred 
  • Light maintenance experience (painting, basic repairs) strongly valued 

Skills & Competencies 

  • Strong attention to detail and reliability in completing tasks 
  • Comfortable working independently and managing time effectively 
  • Dependable, responsive, and able to adapt to changing priorities and urgent needs 
  • Physical capability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
