About Our Opportunity 

We are seeking safety minded team members with an attention to detail for a Utility Operator position in the Plate Department in our fast paced, manufacturing facility located in Montoursville, PA. This is a 2nd shift position working 3P - 11P.  This position is responsible for ensuring that the item they are packaging meets all standards of a quality finished product.   Must maintain appropriate workflow of production, as well as assist in any related operation of that product. Must be fully cross trained to run a plate former. This position operates one plate press in the event a full-time operator is absent and ensures product is produced to quality standard, while maintaining safety and production standards. This is a skilled level position. 

Responsibilities  

  • Adheres to all safety rules, procedures, and protocol.
  • Examining the finished product.
  • Ensuring the quality of the print for correct registration or color.
  • Discovering any defects with the packaging label, such as holes or packages not being properly sealed.
  • Ensuring the labeling is correct for identification and item information purposes. 
  • Preparing inner and master cartons, as well as placing labels on the cartons for identification and shipping information.
  • Addressing any concerns as they occur. 
  • Must maintain positive working relationships with team members.
  • Ability to assist operators with Tex wrap and rework.
  • Ability to make all Tex wrap adjustments successfully.
  • Consistently keeps up with machine output.
  • Assists Operators with basic Operator functions (wrapper jams, roll changes) 
  • Preparing the roll of plate stock onto the roll stand with the assistance of other operators.
  • Starting the process of producing plates by threading roll stock and starting machine.
  • Determining when product meets quality standards of all areas for further operations of packaging. 
  • Maintaining operations of the Tex wrap, heat shrink tunnel, and label machines.
  • Ensuring communications with assigned packers.
  • Assist packers with labeling of bags and boxes.
  • Maintain Housekeeping. 
  • Perform roll changes to a new item using the item changeover procedure checklist.

Qualifications  

  • Ability to understand basic written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to communicate with management and coworkers in order to meet departmental goals.
  • Ability to run 1 plate former successfully to established standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • 6 months prior experience as a packer 2; or 1 Year of Plant Employment (Internal)
  • 1-3 years manufacturing experience (external)
  • Previous Machine Operation Experience Preferred.
  • Fulfilled Operator 1 requirements within 6 months of employment – Preferred
  • Any combination of education, skills, and experience that effectively meets the requirements of the position.
