Job Description
Job Summary:
A Non-Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) performs essential clinical and administrative tasks, like taking vital signs, scheduling, managing records, room prep, and assisting doctors, but with a more limited scope than certified MAs, often relying on on-the-job training, and focusing on foundational patient care and office flow in clinics and private practices. Key duties include interviewing patients, measuring vitals, preparing exam rooms, handling paperwork, and basic patient communication, all while working under physician supervision.

-Ortho: 4 hours education annually

Department Position Summary:
The employee must be able to:
-Deliver age-appropriate care by applying the knowledge and skills required for patients served in the practice.
- Apply principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs.
- Provide care in alignment with unit policies and procedures.
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Manage schedules and organize patient flow.
- Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms.
- Assist with transfers, dressing, specimen collection, exam prep and patient history.
- Perform screenings per provider guidelines.
- Support providers/nurses with procedures, charting, patient/family instructions, and calls.
Clerical Responsibilities
- Send/receive medical records.
- Obtain lab, x-ray, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Complete forms and requisitions.
- Schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance coverage and demographics.
- Maintain and update patient charts.
- Review in-basket messages.
- Prepares medical record for office visit
Environmental Responsibilities
- Clean rooms, instruments, and equipment between visits to ensure infection control.
- Run and document equipment quality controls.
- Maintain logs (refrigerator, sample, quality control).
- Order, sort, and stock supplies.
- Restock exam/procedure rooms.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Respect and promote patient rights.
- Respond appropriately to emergency codes.
- Report patient/staff concerns to supervisor.
Medical Assisting Responsibilities
- Practice aseptic technique and sterilization.
- Record vital signs and prep for physical exams.
- Apply clinical pharmacology knowledge.
- Administer medications (oral, injection).
- Verify prescriptions with physician orders.
- Assist with minor surgeries and tray set-up.
- Provide pre/post-surgical care.
- Apply dressings and remove sutures.
- Dispose of biohazard waste safely.
- Deliver therapeutic modalities.
- Educate patients on assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care.
- Perform lab procedures per OSHA guidelines.
- Apply quality control methods.
- Conduct CLIA-waived testing.
- Perform capillary punctures/venipunctures. (Additional training required)
- Handle specimens (urine, throat, vaginal, stool, sputum).
- Conduct electrocardiography. (Additional training required)
